How to prepare for your appointment

What you should know

  • The first treatment will be longer than others - plan for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  • Wear loose clothing.  Many points that are useful in treatment will require that you remove clothing, and loose clothing can minimize this.
  • While it is not good to show up to an appointment hungry, please don’t eat a large meal just before an appointment.
  • Chronic conditions usually take more treatment than acute conditions.
  • Initially appointments should be close together - such as 1-3 times a week, but as treatment progresses you will be able to space them further and further appart.
  • If any other health concerns come up please let me know.

What treatment is like

  • The first appointment will involve a detailed medical history and acupuncture treatment.
  • Follow up appointments will include a less detailed session of questions.
  • Other treatments may include: Moxa (a gentle warming therapy), electrical stimulation, infrared heat therapy, some massage and an herbal presciption.
  • While not necessarily sensation free (most patients, especially after a few appointments, experience a “Qi“ sensation),  patients find treatments comfortable if not relaxing.  Many patients fall asleep during treatment.
